- Question 1 – I already have identity and service delivery solutions, why should I add PresenceID?
Answer 1 – PresenceID provides the critical functions required to create the first accountable and secure unified identity and service platform. The platform is fully integrated with existing systems and applications and provides enterprise-wide identity synchronization and system self-healing, which transforms identity management into a powerful strategic advantage.
- Question 2 – Does this replace all my currently installed identity solutions?
Answer 2 – No, PresenceID is an identity service platform that integrates, leverages, and enhances all your current identity point solutions by interfacing and enhancing them to provide a unified identity and service delivery solution. New systems and applications can be integrated directly with PresenceID or through additional identity point products that may be bundled with them.
- Question 3 – How does PresenceID make my network more secure?
Answer 3 – PresenceID automates security administration by synchronizing the user content entitlements to all connected systems. Also PresenceID’s virtual desktop bookmarks remove the users need to physically access servers by providing a virtual connection to user specific entitled content from within a browser. Users only see what they have access to.
- Question 4 – Does PresenceID centralize identity management?
Answer 4 – No. PresenceID acts as broker that synchronizes identity attributes, relationships, roles and entitlements between all connected systems, applications and services. Identity source systems create, edit and delete identities and assign entitlements based on roles and relationships. PresenceID ensures the accuracy of the identity data and provides a central location to apply policies and gathers compliance data on who has privileges and access to what files, systems, applications and services.
- Question 5 – Do I have to change my business processes to use PresenceID?
Answer 5 – No, PresenceID relies on the identity source systems for identity authority with respect to the business process the identity source systems is designed to solve. PresenceID expects and relies on identity source systems to manage identity attributes, roles, and relationships within the context of the business processes they are designed to automate.
- Question 6 – Will PresenceID impose additional complexity to achieve unified identity and on-demand service delivery?
Answer 6 – No additional identity integration protocols and servers (i.e. SAML, SPML, WS*Federation, etc.), or training and maintenance is required. PresenceID utilizes identity source system APIs, only requires industry standard SQL, Java and Web servers, and utilizes industry standard Web protocols such as HTTP, HTML, XML and SOAP.
- Question 7 – I have many custom applications that need to be included, can I integrate them?
Answer 7 – Yes, PresenceID supports both open standard and native APIs to interact with applications and systems in a way to best accommodate each. This allows straightforward integration with existing solutions.
- Question 8 – Why is PresenceID any different than federation?
Answer 8 – Federation attempts to authenticate users among distributed systems by sharing trust. It enjoys limited success because of the slow acceptance caused by competing standards. Federation never attempts to unify identity. It is an extension of the server-centric application stack tactic with all its problems and limitations. PresenceID bypasses the inherant problems and limitations resulting from federation.
- Question 9 – How is PresenceID licensed? Is it affordable for my entire enterprise?
Answer 9 – PresenceID is licensed on a subscription basis by the number of users, and invoiced on flexible terms to meet your needs. You only pay for what you use. The seat license count is increased or decreased based on the number of users during the invoice period you choose. You can use any combination of Hub Manager servers and Spoke Manager connectors you need, where you want. It is low cost to evaluate and deploy across your entire enterprise.
